Hygiene & Oral Health

We know that healthy habits start early. By weaving hygiene and oral care into the daily routine, children build independence and confidence while learning how to care for their bodies.

Daily Hygiene Practices

  • Hand-washing: Children wash their hands upon arrival, before meals, after outdoor play, and after using the bathroom. Fun songs, visuals, and consistent routines make this habit enjoyable and automatic.

  • Self-Care Kits: Each child has a personal kit with items such as their own hairbrush or comb. These tools encourage independence and help children practice caring for themselves in meaningful ways.

  • Healthy Environment: Classrooms are regularly sanitized, and shared materials are cleaned daily to promote a safe, healthy space for all.

  • Daily Toothbrushing: Children brush their teeth at school each day with guidance from teachers, learning proper brushing techniques in a fun, supportive way.

  • Community Partner Visits: Local dentist Dr. Julie Nutter visits AVP to teach children about caring for their teeth, answer questions, and help make dental care a positive experience.

  • Family Support: We provide tips and resources to parents for supporting oral health routines at home.
